Shaker 2000

ITG designed and manufactured the “Shaker 2000” which is able to perform the task of bacterial plating with more uniformity,
consistency, and using less manpower than the current method reducing the daily labor requirement by approximately four hours.

Innovative Technologies “shakes” things up in the genomics research world!

A genomics research company had a problem. Every day, multiple technicians from different areas had to leave what they were doing to manually “shake” one bioassay tray at a time in order to uniformly distribute a bacteria solution over an agar plating on the tray. Because there was a specific, limited time frame in which the process needed to happen, the disruption caused a great deal of frustration (as well as sore arms!) to the technicians tasked with helping.

ITGC was hired to solve the problem by creating an automated bioassay tray shaker that would shake and rotate a stack of up to 8 trays simultaneously.

The machine’s throw needed to slowly rotate during the timed cycle in order to predictably reproduce the motion the technicians were doing. This motion would ensure even distribution of the solution. The shaker needed controls for frequency and time to optimize production unavailable using the manual procedure.

ITGC designed and manufactured the “Shaker 2000” which is able to perform the task of bacterial plating with more uniformity, consistency, and using less manpower than the current method, reducing the daily labor requirement by approximately four hours.
